It\'s only available on the Playstation2 console, during its original release

It takes place in the early 90s
After the logo screen loads, a large map pops up, and the options Select, Options, Audio, and Display come up
Stats you can see in the menu include: Distance Ran, Distance Swam, Distance Driven in a Car, Distance Driven in a Motorcycle, Distance Rode on a Bike, Weapon Accuracy, and more (expect returning stats like the ones from Vice City as well)
Cities and Maps
The game takes place in the fictional state of San Andreas
It has three cities: Los Santos (based on Los Angeles), San Fierro (based on San Francisco), and Las Venturra (based on Las Vegas)

Each city is the size of Vice City
Each city has it\'s own airport with flyable planes (Confirmed so far: Full-Winged Dodos)
The entire game map will be four to six times larger than Vice City
The map in the bottom-left corner is green *NEW*
Like in Vice City, parts of the map will be unlocked as you complete more missions
Streets have an orange glow when the daytime sun shines down on them
Each street has a name, and there are street signs posted everywhere


There are mountains, countrysides, and a desert to drive through
The country side has fields, farms, rivers, forests, hills, and tumbleweeds
There is wildlife in the woods *NEW*
There are many trees and foliage when travelling through the forest
You can drive from Los Santos, through the countryside, up a mountain and into San Fierro, then onto Las Ventura
San Fierro will have many hills, and be driving based
San Fierro has it\'s own version of the Golden Gate bridge, called the Gant bridge *NEW*
There is a hippie festival in San Fierro called \"Hushbury and Garcia Joint Festival\" *NEW*
Caesar is introduced in San Fierro *NEW*
Chinatown is in San Fierro *NEW*
In Chinatown you meet the Triads, and you work for a blind guy called Wu Zi Mu, and one of his missions involves you rescuing fugitives from a container *NEW*
Los Santos is a small part of the main map, and in the bottom-right corner
Los Santos takes up 1/5th of the entire map
The map is America-shaped
St. Brutus Motel is used as a general meeting place, and an area where you can cut deals


The districts in Los Santos are: The Grove, Vinewood, Rodeo, Downtown, and The Beach
The Grove is the home of your gang, the Orange Grove Families
Vinewood is modeled after Hollywood, and is filled with tourists, and it will also have landmarks including the Walk of Fame, and Cathay Theater
It is also filled with the rich and powerful, with large mansions available to be robbed
Rodeo is filled with all the upper-class people who dress trendy, making it the rich part of town
Downtown has all types of businessmen, and includes the landmarks Los Santos Convention Center and the Doc G Records Building (building on the left)
You can ride the Brown Streak train around downtown to get to your locations faster, and it travels all around the city
The Beach has its own small amusement park on it which has a ferris wheel, and also has the Santa Maria boardwalk
The Freeway can take you around the city quickly, or can be used as a fast link to the other cities


The mountain, Mt Chiliad, is the largest single object in the game, and takes about a minute to get to the top in a helicopter
It takes 15 minutes to walk to the top of the mountain *NEW*
It is half a mile tall
Nearing the top of the mountain, you\'ll begin to see clouds
It casts a large shadow over a portion of the map
It has tunnels, trails, and cliff-side roads


Weather is specific, and it can be raining in one place while being sunny in another *NEW*
Los Santos\' weather is bright and gritty, with the occasional rain
San Fierro is usually foggy
Las Venturra has harsh, bright lights with clean air
The countryside is warm, and has a natural feeling


There are 12 small towns to visit in the countryside
Transitions to countryside and cities are gradual, with the city appearing in the distance, and houses becoming seen more frequently as you approach
Towns that you can visit in the countryside include Dillamore, Angel Pine, Flint County, Fern Ridge, Red County, Whetstone, and Shady Creeks
In Angel Pine there is a Liquor Store, Trailer Park, Bait Shack, and a One-Screen Movie Theatre
In Dillamore there is a gas station


Three of the franchise restaurants in the game are Cluckin\' Bell, Well Stacked Pizza, and Burger Shot
At the Cluckin\' Bell, you can order the: Cluckin\' Big Filet Burger, Cluckin\' Huge Double Filet, wings-pieces bucket and The Fowl Wrap Burrito
At the Well Stacked Pizza, you can order: The Buster, The D-luxe, and The Double D-luxe
At the Burger Shot, you can order: The Double Barreled Burger
There will also be vending carts around the city


There are stores where you can buy clothing for yourself *NEW*
One store is called Binco, and it sells discount type clothing such as khakis, plaid shirts and inexpensive sneakers. You\'ll be respected by locals more if you wear this type of clothing *NEW*
SubUrban is another store that sells expensive brand name clothing and is located in the middle of Ballas territory *NEW*
ProLaps is another store that sells athletic style clothing such as hats, expensive sneakers, shorts, boxing headgear, motorbike helmets and hockey masks *NEW*
Graphics
The graphics engine has been tweaked, not changed
There will be smog effects in Los Santos
Real-time reflections on cars, mirrors, and windows
Radial lighting which gives realistic shadowing
Soft-shadow lighting for interiors
Unique models for objects for night and day to add more realism
There is \'rag-doll\' phsyics, or \'impact animation\' (adds realism)
In game textures are both photographed and self-drawn
Lighting effects change when you are in the water
Shallow water and the surface of water will react based on the weather and and time of day
Looking from underwater to the land changes the land\'s appearance
Wave physics have been completely redone from previous GTAs
There are 16,000 unique textures, and buildings
There are 35-50% more polygons than in VC
Able to see twice as far in the city than you could in Vice City, and four times as far in the countryside
The camera angles have been redesigned
The aim of the programmer\'s have been to get the game to run at 30 frames per second (about the speed you watch a television show at)
There is some slowdown in framerate if there are too many pedestrians and cars on the screen at once
Distant objects won\'t appear to be popping up as in previous GTA games
An approaching area, such as a forest with trees, will be rendered as one object when far away
Once you get closer, each tree renders itself separately
The right analog stick can be used to move the camera, both inside and outside cars
Gameplay
There is no online multiplayer mode
The story is three times longer than the one in Vice City
Use the right analog stick to see from CJ\'s point of view
The display when running around or in a car will be similar to both GTA3 and Vice City
At least once every few days you will have to eat
You need to eat to keep up your stamina
Eat too much and you will become fat and be made fun of by other pedestrians
If you get too fat, CJ waddles around like a penguin, has trouble breathing, throws up food, and has trouble fighting because of slower reaction time
Work off the fat by going to the gym to exercise and be trim
Riding your bike counts as exercise


You can now swim
Swimming counts as exercise
You can play basketball which counts as exercise *NEW*
CJ automatically treads water without you having to press buttons
You use the analog stick to do breaststroke in the water, which has no effect on CJ\'s stamina meter
By holding X while using the analog stick, CJ begins to do freestyle (front crawl) which is faster, but uses up your stamina
You can continue to do freestyle until you run out of stamina, and then you have to go back to breaststroke
By pressing circle, CJ dives underwater, and then you can swim underwater by pressing X
If you swim underwater while someone is chasing you, they lose track of you
You have a lung capacity meter while underwater, and if you run out of breath before coming back up to the surface, you die
Some secrets can only be found by looking underwater
There are no special areas to get back on land once you are in the water; any area that he can reach or walk on to can be used
You can jack boats that are driving while swimming in the water, although it\'s fairly hard to do
Other people in the game can also swim in the water
If you drive your car into the water, you have the option to bail out and swim to shore, or sink with it
Your stamina can be built up, lengthening how long you can stay underwater
Running or driving on a beach will slow you down


If you don\'t eat, you\'ll become skinny and your strength will be weakened
When CJ needs to eat, a message will appear on screen

Anything done outside of a mission can change your abilities, appearance, and progress
Hundreds of different skills to learn
Learn new skills after completing side missions, or in normal missions
Achievements done during missions will affect what leisure options are available to you
\'Dynamic Difficulty\' changes the difficulty of the gameplay to match your skill


In Las Ventura, you can buy casinos and run them
You can gamble your money in casinos
You can rob homes with careful planning
You can be stealthlike, and hide in the shadows to avoid enemies
More new mini jobs such as robberies
If you steal a moving truck, you can press R3 to start robbery side missions *NEW*
It is best to wear a ski mask or balaclava during robberies, because you enter a sort of sneaking mode which makes you quieter when moving *NEW*
Robbery missions can only take place during the night *NEW*
You can steal things such as stereos, VCRs, and TVs *NEW*
After you steal something it can be loaded into your truck *NEW*
The local \"fence\" will buy the stolen goods off of you and give you cash *NEW*
You can jump over fences *NEW*
There\'s a horizontal noise meter which gauges how much noise you\'re making, and by moving slowly it stays low *NEW*


You can recruit gang members, and use them to do four person drive-by shootings
During four person drive-bys, each gang member has an independent target, and there is a car health meter to show how much damage the car has taken
Recruit your own gang members to use in missions
Use your gang to take over parts of the map
Your gang members will come help you if you drive into your own gang territory and the cops are on your tail
Some parts of the city you can take over yourself, some you need your gang
You must maintain your parts of the map, or you will lose control of them


The police will do anything to take you down, including grabbing on to your rear bumper!

If you dress sharply, women will comment on your looks and rival gangs will be more wary of you *NEW*
Once you complete enough missions for a gang, they will let you wear their gang colours *NEW*
If you are dressed in gang colours, police officers and other gangs recognize you more easily *NEW*
Clothing you buy is kept at your safehouse, so if you\'d like to change back to it you can go to the closet and switch *NEW*
You can get haircuts which changes your appearance
You can change your facial hair
At Reece\'s barbershop, you can scroll through a list of available haircuts, which cost $500 each
You can get the haircut style of bald, jheri curls, afro, and flattop

There are several barbershops located around San Andreas *NEW*
When talking to people, you have a list of things to say that you can choose *NEW*
Your looks will change how people interact with you
You can get tattoos for yourself, and each city has it\'s own style of tattoos
Los Santos has guns, gang names, and women tattoos; San Fierro has Aztec symbols, and drug iconography tattoos; Las Venturra has cards, and dice tattoos
You also have stats, such as by driving a car a lot, you become a better car driver
You can customize your character by changing his hairstyle, physique, weight, driving skills, clothes, possesions, weapons skills, character, relationships, and gang
Weapons
Carl can use dual pistols, and other weapons in dual mode such as the Uzi
Improved gun targeting system
You can strafe to avoid gunfire
You can attack enemies from behind
You can roll sideways during a gunfight by pressing a button
You can climb on, and pick up, boxes
More hand to hand fighting techniques available
You can lock on to enemies during a fist-fight
You can block attacks from opponents
Many new weapons have been added
Old weapons have been redesigned
Weapons match those available in the early \'90s
Weapons all feel unique
New improved targeting system includes targets with full health have a green bar, if slightly injured have yellow health, and enemies that are almost dead will have a red health bar
You can get a headshot with standard weapons
The longer a player holds down R1, the better chance you have of getting a headshot when firing

Improved driving physics, and an improved handling system
Cops on bikes will shoot at you when you\'re being chased, and if you escape them the police copters come
The police copters have a spotlight that can be used and aimed at you, which also creates a blinding effect
When flying, the view switches so you can see the horizon, making it easier to fly
Specialty vehicles can be unlocked
Cars get dirty when driving them through the countryside and desert, and can be cleaned off by going to a Pay-N-Spray
Dirt appears on and around the wheels, and also areas of impact when you hit something
Dust can also accumulate on your windshield when driving through dusty areas
On bikes you\'ll have to hit X fast to go faster, although it will still go forward by holding X
On the BMX bikes you can do wheelies, endos (stoppies), and other stunts such as bunnyhops, 180\'s, 360\'s, and more
Carjacking is much harder to do than previous GTA\'s, because pedestrians will fight to keep their car
You have to use a variety of abilities to steal the car, such as punching, kicking, even smashing an innocent person\'s face into their windshield
You have to be careful when running people over, because they may grab onto your car and try to steal it
Vehicles have corrosion effects, such as getting rusty, as well as getting dirty
Pedestrians\' vehicles won\'t be perfect; their cars will have broken windows, loose bumpers, and even doors with bullet holes in them
Trailers can be attached/detached on the large trucks
The right analog stick is used to use the hydraulics (bounce) in the lowriders
You can drive your vehicle through billboards
Monster trucks don\'t have a handbreak, but rather switch to 4x4 mode when you hold R1

Artificial Intelligence
Pedestrians are a lot smarter now, and react if you start beating someone in the streets
Peds have relationships with others (i.e. holding hands) *NEW*
Peds have over 1 hour\'s worth of various comments, compared to 10 mins from Vice City
Peds react and sound differently based on where they\'re found in different parts of San Andreas
Peds exist in their own little world, and if you follow them you\'ll see them go through daily routines such as buying things at stores, etc
Peds might fight back when you try to rob them in their home, while others might simply surrender *NEW*
Gang AI has been drastically improved, because while you\'re not there, gang members will smoke, drink, and flash the gang\'s sign at each other
Gang\'s also have their own ways of getting you out of their territory, such as ambushing you, or attacking you upfront when you approach them
Music
New audio technology is being used to make in-game audio sound more realistic, such as trying to hear a conversation in another room would be difficult because of the walls, and when in a tunnel sound is amplified *NEW*
There is three times more licensed music than in Vice City
There is a confirmed rap station
