General Charles Krulak's distinguished military career taught him the vital importance of preparation - so he knows just how crucial Villa's new training complex will be to Martin O'Neill's troops.
Villa director Krulak was on hand to proudly show supporters around the spectacular £13million facility yesterday, enthusing: "This is probably the best in the world!"
And Randy Lerner's right-hand man believes the new-look Bodymoor Heath will help O'Neill as he strives to bolster the squad this summer.
He told www.avfc.co.uk: "This is a phenomenal venue. The 1982 players came here and said that if they had something like this, 25 years ago they would have won the European Cup in succession.
"Likewise, the new players love it. But for the Villa fans they need to think what this means to players that we are seeking to attain in the future.
"This is a part of the sales pitch. If you come to Villa you are not only joining a great team and a great family- but we are going to take care of you. Because this is their work spot and it is phenomenal."
Krulak added: "It is the finest training facility in Europe and some of the equipment here is better than anything in the United States. Technologically, this is the finest training facility probably in the world.
"Martin and the players had an input and probably more importantly the physios and trainers has a tremendous input - so if you look at the facility half of it is dedicated to the dressing rooms and lockers.
"The key half is addressing the training of these players to be world class. That is what we are here for."
