Leicester's decision to sack Claudio Ranieri nine months after winning the Premier League made former Foxes striker Gary Lineker "shed a tear".

Chill, see on busineks.

            mängijad on v***d jah

The Mirror have, however, stated that Leicester City players were the reason behind his sacking, stating that senior Leicester players recently complained about Claudio Ranieri to the club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

In the report, it also states that a Leicester player walked into the players lounge and declared: "That's it, we don't know what we are doing, we are ****ed." after their defeat to Manchester United earlier this month.

Players force Ranieri out of Leicester

Thai owners act after crisis meeting with struggling team in Spain

Claudio Ranieri was sacked by Leicester City last night after a breakdown in his relationship with the players that he led to an extraordinary Premier League title only nine months ago.

A statement released by the Leicester board confirmed that the “painful but necessary” decision had been taken amid fears of relegation. The club had planned to review Ranieri’s position at the end of the season, with a view to relieving him of his duties if there was no dramatic improvement but he was told he would be leaving with immediate effect on his return from Spain yesterday, just hours after senior players had expressed their concerns in a meeting with Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the club owner, in Seville, scene of the Champions League round-of-16 match the night before.

The grievances aired by Leicester’s players included frequent and unexplained changes to tactics and personnel — most recently the decision to start with Ahmed Musa, rather than the in-form Demarai Gray, against Seville on Wednesday — as well as concerns over alterations to their training and dietary regime.

Ranieri was informed of the decision to dismiss him by director of football Jon Rudkin at the club’s training ground. He was said to be stunned, and shocked that there was no justification beyond a brief explanation that the owners wanted change. Ranieri then spoke to the owners later in the afternoon but was not able to say goodbye to the players in person as they had left the training ground before his meeting with Rudkin. The Italian is expected to be compensated to the tune of about £3 million, having signed a new four-year contract in August.

Ranieri was persuaded by his coaching and sports-science staff to reduce the players’ workload last season but there have been complaints from the dressing room that a more intense schedule has had a negative impact on results. For his part, Ranieri is known to have been exasperated by an apparent loss of motivation among some of last season’s title winners.

He is understood to have been exasperated by some of the back-room staff he inherited from the previous manager Nigel Pearson, and felt that they sought to undermine him with the players. With Leicester just one point above the relegation zone — although still in the Champions League — the board have immediately begun looking for a new manager. Roberto Mancini, the former Manchester City and Inter Milan manager and briefly a Leicester player in 2001, Roy Hodgson and Harry Redknapp were immediately identified as possible candidates by leading bookmakers, while the reappointment of Pearson, Ranieri’s predecessor, would be favoured by some players.

The decision to dismiss Ranieri will cause considerable anger in the football community, given the esteem and affection in which he is held, as well as the reverence for his achievements last season, when Leicester pulled off what has been widely acclaimed as one of the most remarkable successes in the history of team sport. As recently as last month, Ranieri was honoured as coach of the year by Fifa.

Gary Lineker, the Match of the Day presenter and former Leicester and England striker, wrote on Twitter: “After all that Claudio Ranieri has done for Leicester City, to sack him now is inexplicable, unforgivable and gut-wrenchingly sad.” Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool and England defender, described Leicester’s decision as an “absolute joke”. By 9.30pm, an hour and a half after the club statement, no Leicester player had commented publicly on social media or elsewhere.

Ranieri was informed a fortnight ago — first privately and then in a public vote of confidence, which spoke of the board’s “unwavering support” — that his job was safe until the end of the season.

But in explaining the board’s about-turn, the owners’ statement read: “This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make in nearly seven years since King Power [a Thai duty-free company] took ownership of Leicester City, but we are duty-bound to put the club’s long-term interests above all sense of personal entitlement.”

Craig Shakespeare, the assistant manager, and Mike Stowell, the first-team coach, are expected to be in charge for the Premier League match at home to Liverpool on Monday.

Minu arvates just õigel ajal tehtud vahetus.
