päris lahe - oleks tädil munn, oleks onu
Ära sega... las nad võtavad glenni treeneriks, normaalset flirti relegatsiooniga oleks ju lõbus vaadata. samas muidugi villa poolehoidjad ei ole selle koha pealt asja ütlejad...
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It’s nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It’s about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom". - Danny Blanchflower, legend

Väike kopipeist NUFC.com-ist selgitamaks Euroopa võimalusi:

Arsenal or Spurs, West Ham and Blackburn have taken the three normal UEFA spots.

If the smoggies win the UEFA Cup, they get a fourth UEFA spot set aside only for that purpose.

If the smoggies lose the final, then the representatives of lower-ranked countries come in a round later to compensate.*

The only scenario whereby our current position of seventh would have been enough for a UEFA Cup place would have been if West Ham finished in sixth. That\'s now impossible.

Intertoto qualification now goes to the seventh position team. While West Ham can theoretically get there, it\'s now down to a straight fight between us and Bolton.

It\'s generally accepted that both sides would take a place in the competition if offered.

Win over Chelsea on Sunday will give us the Intertoto spot - regardless of what Nicky Butt & Co do at the Reebok on Sunday.

Vaatan, et Scumberland tegi viimases kodumängus siiski imet.
Jäi veel 1 piinlik rekord sündimata. No küll järgmisel korral tuleb ära.

Minu tagasihoidlik ennustus oleks: 51-53 punkti.
Tubli Antz! Klaas veini minu poolt uue hoaaja alguses!
          Ja 5 cl viina.

Hmmmm... See \"vs\" meie teema pealkirjast on nüüd vähemalt aastakeseks kadunud.

            Aga.

            Stephen Carri punane kaart tühistati.

Õige otsus. Seda ma tahtsin öelda.

              Veel uudiseid.
              Roederile roheline tuli.

FFS lubab siis esmaspäeval uue manageri nime teada anda.

Väidetavalt võib Glenn Roederi kohta sellist statistikat teha.

              Hooaja lõppseis - teine aasta

              Gillingham 7th - Relegated
              Watford 7th - Relegated
              West Ham 7th - Relegated
              Newcastle 7th - ......

Seitsmes koht ja INTERTOTO, tutvume ka vastastega ...

After having been in a miserable 15th spot when Souness was axed, Newcastle ended the season in seventh place, enough for them to become the Premiership\'s Intertoto representatives next season.

They will enter the competition at the Third Round stage and play a two-legged tie, victory in which will secure a place in the UEFA Cup Second Qualifying Round.

Deadline for entering the competition is June 5th and our opponents will be either the Northern Irish, Icelandic or Norwegian representatives, who play as follows:

As ever, all information is presented on a best endeavours basis and is subject to change - if you decide to book five bob flights somewhere and they turn out not to coincide with a game that\'s your own problem.

                Round One:
                First Leg: Sat/Sun 17/18.06.06
IBK Keflavik (ICE) v Dungannon Swifts (NI)

                Second Leg: Sat/Sun 24/25.06.06
Dungannon Swifts (NI) v BK Keflavik (ICE)

                Round Two:
First Leg: Sat / Sun 01/02.07.06
Winners of Rnd 1 v Lillestrom (NOR)

Second Leg: Sat / Sun 08/09.07.06
Winners of Rnd 1 v Lillestrom (NOR)

(NB: h/a game order for this round tbc)

                Round Three:
                First Leg: Sat/Sun 15/16.07.06
Winners of Rnd 2 v Newcastle United

                Second Leg: Sat 22.07.06
Winners of Rnd 2 v Newcastle United

(NB: h/a game order for this round tbc)

Success in the Third Round would then hand us a place in the UEFA Cup Second Qualifying Round as follows:

                First Leg: Thu 10.08.06

                Second Leg: Thu 24.08.06

(the Premiership season begins on 19.08.06 - between these two games)

The draw for this round is scheduled to take place on Friday 28.07.06.

                Possible opponents:

Dungannon Swifts finished fourth behind champions Linfield, Glentoran and Portadown and have now received their UEFA licence to participate in the Intertoto Cup.

However, the facilities at their Stangmore Park ground mean that the side from County Tyrone will play their game(s) at Glenavon\'s Mourneview Park - in the town of Lurgan, to the west of Belfast.

A dispute over the fielding of an ineligible player by Coleraine has led to a protest by Cliftonville, who have argued that the game should be given as a walkover to them.

The three points gained would then take them above Dungannon in the league and in theory give them the Intertoto spot.

However, Cliftonvilles\' finances could make gaining a UEFA licence tricky - and so far the Swifts remain in pole position to represent Northern Ireland.

If we do face Dungannon we\'ll be up against a midfield that boasts a Pedro and a Kevin Keegan, not to mention chairman Gordon Lee!

IBK Keflavik picked up the final European place in Iceland, behind Hafnarfjardar, IA Akranes and Valur Reykjavik.

The season just ended saw them in the UEFA Cup, where they Etzella Ettelbruck before going out 0-4 on aggregate to the Germans of Mainz in the Second Qualifying Round.

IBK play in Reykjanesbaer, near the main international airport for Iceland.

Finally, Lillestrom SK qualified along with champions Vålerenga IF (whom we met in the UEFA Cup in 2004) Molde FK, Start Kristiansand and Lyn Oslo.

Lillestrom come from the town of the same name which is on the outskirts of Oslo towards the main airport.

They play their home games at the Arasen Stadium and their hard-core fans are nicknamed Kanari-Fansen - not surprisingly they play in yellow shirts.

We looked set to face Lillestrom in July 2002, only for Bosnian side Zeljeznicar to beat the Norwegians 1-0 home and away to set up a Champions League qualifying tie with Newcastle.

Former smoggy Jan Åge Fjørtoft is manager for LSK which in Norway is more of a Director of Football role. Coach is Uwe Rösler, the former Manchester City and Southampton player.

Rösler\'s Assistant is Gunnar Halle, who played for Oldham, Leeds, Bradford and Wolves while ex-Newcastle defender Ronny Johnsen appeared for Lillestrom earlier in his career.

Speaking of the manager\'s job, United were actually trumped by Lillestrom in 1988, as we sought to replace Will McFaul - Davie Hay turning down the Newcastle job in favour of the Norwegians.

We got Jim Smith and went down - Hay went to Lillestrom and won the league....

                                Nii see siis läks ...

Alan Shearer XI 3 vs Celtic 2

St. James\' Park was United on Thursday night, providing one more marvellous memory of the Shearer era as the curtain finally came down.

The number nine led his side onto the field to be greeted with a wall of noise and a display of cards held aloft by three sides of the stadium, before kicking off the game then departing to yet another ovation.

There were no goals in the opening half, the home side coming closest through some individual brilliance from Charles N\'Zogbia, who saw his shot diverted onto the crossbar by Hoops \'keeper David Marshall.

It took until the 70th minute for the scoring to begin, Albert Luque volleying home a deep centre from Peter Ramage - MattyPattison having been denied by Marshall some moments earlier.

Celtic then levelled from the penalty spot ten minutes later as Ramage bundled over Maloney - the same player getting up to beat Harper.

And when John Hartson headed the visitors into the lead with just seven minutes to go it looked as if Strachan\'s men hadn\'t read the script properly.

However in added time, Les Ferdinand\'s low centre across the six yard box was turned past his own \'keeper by Adam Virgo.

And almost from the kick-off Ferdinand laid one more goal on for his former striking partner, falling in the box under a hint of a challenge from two Celtic players.

Local official Mark Clattenburg pointed to the spot and you-know-who returned to the field to knock to the ball into the Gallowgate net and end the game in appropriate fashion.

Al then returned to be presented with a number of special awards on a hastily- erected podium, before taking the microphone from Ant and Dec to thank the crowd for their support over the last decade.

He then embarked on a final lap of honour round the ground with his family, pausing frequently to collect scarves and shake hands, before disappearing from view for the final time as a firework display began.

What a man, what a night.

Whoever had the idea of giving out free \"proper\" black and white scarves as fans entered the ground should be applauded, as they provided a great prop on the night.

The support built and built during the game to an absolute crescendo in the minutes before Luque\'s goal, the sight of tens of thousands of those scarves being whirled around being nothing short of incredible.

And while the night was in honour of Al, this was a celebration of all things black and white - the generous applause afforded returning old boys Watson, Lee and Speed eclipsed by the awesome roar that greeted the sight of Sir Les.

How we would greet the capture of silverware is open to question, but it\'s difficult to believe it could be much more memorable than the amazing fervour and emotion demonstrated by our support tonight.

The love shown wasn\'t just for Al tonight, it was for the club. To borrow a phrase from our visitors, it remains a grand old team to play for....

AS starting XI: Given, Carr, Babayaro, Boumsong, Bramble, Watson, Clark, Emre, N\'Zogbia, Ameobi, Shearer.

                                Subs:
                                Chopra for Shearer (10 secs)
