    Kes on rubinho

www.ramzone.co.uk message board'is on viimase kuu aja jooksul läbivaks teemaks tõusnud keegi rubinho. Tegemist on eestlasest derby fänniga, kelle unistuseks on inglismaa pinnal pride parkil derby mängu vaadata. Kuna eestlaste tengelpung on teadagi õhuke, kaapisid ramzone liikmed kokku £600, et rubinho eestist derbysse laupäevaseks derby-charlton mänguks kohale saada. Viimane uudis on järgmine:

Anyone who doesn't know - PARTY Friday night at the Greyhound, Village St, Normanton. Please be there for 9pm
    FREE BUFFET & DISCO
RAFFLE - if you are able to bring along a raffle prize it would be much appreciated.
Meet Rubinho (at last) the Estonian Derby fan . Ramzone members have raised £600 (including the sponsorship) to bring Rubinho over to Derby from Tallinn.

Ühesõnaga, kas keegi teab, kellega on tegemist?

Väike vaene maanoor Rubinho from Estonia.

Derby\'s No. 1 Fan in Estonia

          By Rubinho
          Date: 23/8/2001

Hi there! My \'name\' is Rubinho, and I recently had the pleasure of meeting quite a few of the people who post on the RamZone Message Board when Derby County played in my home country of Estonia.

I shall write about the great day we met and all about going with the Derby fans to the Lillekula Stadium to actually see Derby play in a later article, but meanwhile I thought that you might like to know some more about Estonia, Mart Poom\'s country.

Like me, Mart Poom was quite young when Estonia gained its freedom from the USSR, but the traumatic events then are lodged in my memory, and I would like to share them with the Derby fans whom I am proud to think of as my friends.

I live in Tallinn, on the eastern outskirts, and I presently live with my sister in one of those huge grey blocks of flats that were considered decent living occupation for the workers by the Soviet Union. It is nine storeys high and we call them \'stone boxes\' - they are not happy places to live but I am lucky because my block is on the edge and next to the Pirita River.

Tallinn is a nicer place to be a tourist than to live, and although I have lots of friends in my area, we often go to the Old Town because there is so little to do elsewhere.

My parents live about a one hour walk away in a \'summer house\' which has a garden where we can grow lots of vegetables. Since independence, however, no-one wants to eat these vegetables, we want to eat \'\'exotic\'\' fruits which are now so freely available here, such as watermelons and bananas which cannot be grown in our severe Baltic climate. My parents have now lived there 1 ½ years and I would live there too except it would be very inconvenient for me at Tallinn University where I study economics.

I cannot remember too much about the old days except that you had to stand in line for half an hour to buy 200g of butter, no-one was allowed to go abroad without a special permit and the only cars on the road were Ladas (and even worse cars!).

What I do remember is standing in the Baltic chain, a chain of people holding hands starting Tallinn and then going on hundreds of miles to Riga, capital of Latvia and even further to Vilnius, Lithuania\'s capital. There was not one single hole in that chain.

The chain was a protest against the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact which illegally divided Eastern Europe between Germany and the Soviet Union.

The Revolution in the three Baltic States is known as the \'Singing Revolution\' because no force was used here in Estonia.

It got very tense in the end because people were shot in Riga and Vilnius and we sat in front of the TV all day long watching news of what was happening there.

There were human casualties and we were all scared of when it was going to start here in Estonia.

My Mom worked in Estonian Radio then and of course that was considered a strategic point because of news reaching abroad, so there were barricades in front of the building and it was surrounded by Russian soldiers.

When the USSR army started surrounding the TV tower, the Russian soldiers were becoming hungry and they were bought off by receiving food from the Estonians who were defending the building. Some of the soldiers became too friendly with our people and they were sent back and another group of soldiers came.

I was only a child as I said, but it was frightening and we didn\'t know what would happen. Luckily for us it all happened quickly and not one drop of blood was shed in Estonia.

The 10th Anniversary of our Independence was celebrated last week on the 20th August.

When I write again I will tell all RamZone readers about the happiest day of my life, 6th August 2001 and the best present I have ever had which was given to me on that very day.

I hope you will all now understand why we are so immensely proud of our country and of course of Mart Poom who has been such a wonderful ambassador for us.

People who have never been occupied by a foreign power do not understand how very precious their freedom is.

          Mart Poom understands this.

May the Violet flag flutter in the wind on all fields of challenge and valour, a vivid hope is our solace, we have eleven athletes and one heart. Go, Fiorentina, we want you to be the queen of all teams, go, Fiorentina, fight with bravery and prowess everywhere! In any hour of dismay and victory, remember you're the history of football!
