RIP Albert Joseph Scanlon (10 October 1935 – 22 December 2009)
At the age of 22, he suffered a fractured skull, a broken leg and kidney problems in the Munich air disaster on 6 February 1958, but made a full recovery and was back in action at the start of the 1958-59 season. He was about to sign for Arsenal just before the air crash, but the projected transfer was then cancelled.
Scanlon was admitted to the Salford Royal hospital in Salford with kidney problems and pneumonia on 21 October 2009. He was in intensive care for more than a month, before dying on 22 December 2009, at the age of 74.
