Are you nervous?

No. The best thing for me is when the games are getting closer. Training is so important, but I love the moment of adrenaline, that feeling of vertigo, wondering what’s going to happen in the game. My job means I often have to ignore my feelings. The worst thing is having to pick 10 plus the keeper, because everyone would give their eye tooth for the team and I feel bad, but I have to take the decisions.

Do you enjoy it, or suffer it?
Enjoy it. I sleep well, because this is my passion and I’m where I want to be and I coach the team I love. I can’t complain.

Defeat to Levante

It’s the best thing that could have happened to us. I’m convinced of it. Overall we lost three points and the teams following us picked up one. We knew it was important game, but we just couldn’t win it. The team is fine. We’re arriving with good physical and mental preparation.

Luck

We’re good, we’re going to play every single game you can in a year, except for the Copa del Rey final. That’s an experience and now we’ve got a final to enjoy against Málaga on Sunday.

There are two games left. What most influences you?

Feeling it is the best thing. I don’t accept pressure, or fear, but I do accept the responsibility. The psychological part is the fortress that allows us to take a step forward. Before, you just went out and played, it was easier, now when the referee blows his whistle you have to wait for everything you’ve worked on.



Have you thought about winning nothing?

I want the people who come to the stadium to be optimistic. I believe in the work we’ve done and we’re convinced; we need to train well and come into the match with all the psychological preparation done, so that the game is an outcome of that.

Since I started to compete I’ve wanted to win everything. When I played in the ‘plaza’ I didn’t want to lose.

How are you in the half –time talks?

Very spontaneous, I’m trying all the time to be less guarded in saying what I think. My players need to know and footballers today are better prepared. Today the players have grown, they are better and they need arguments, facts and clear concepts.

Malaga have nothing to play for

I genuinely believe that when you reach the end of the season and you don’t have anything to play for you have less responsibility and you’re freer. A team with less responsibility is no doubt going to play better, that’s why we have to take the game to those places where we want it to be. I expect it to be like Valenia, Granada, Elche....they are teams who fight and long may it be that way.

Are you one of the big clubs now?

It’s not easy to break the domination of two powerful teams, they deserve everything they have because they have the best players and coaches – we’re trying to do it from a different place; showing to the public and the clubs that with a project and hard work it’s possible to compete. This is something new, but over and above whoever wins the final, the people involved at every Spanish football team can see from Atlético what they can become.

Lots of Real Madrid and Barcelona fans congratulate me and that makes me very proud. We’ve shown balance and kept many of our best players to be able to compete. Football fans from all over Spain see something good in Atleti because to a certain extent they identify with Atlético.

Veel mõned aastad tagasi oleks prantsuse liiga kaitsija heal juhul viimase variandi koha peale pretendeerinud ja Dante on alates hooaja teisest poolest olnud sama pask, kui kogu Bayern München.
