A NEW SPONSOR?

"Sportpaper AS has reported that TVG is also negotiating with Celta de Vigo. What TVG wants is to have its logo on the shirts of both clubs. More precisely what they want is to put a 'G' on one of the sleeves. This letter is part of the new image that the station is trying to project.

AS predicts that negotiations will be complicated. The problem is that Deportivo and Celta have special deals with Fadesa and Citroën respectively, which involves the exclusive feature of putting their logos on the teams' shirts. Any additional publicity would require the approval of both sponsors.

Another problem for Deportivo is that the squad's shirt already has both sleeves occupied. The logo of La Liga (LFP) is on one and the Joma (J) logo is on the other. The club will have to find a solution to this situation first, but a deal with TVG is still possible.

According to AS, TVG is trying to increase its presence in football. The TV station was broadcasting some La Liga games last season, but during the present campaign they were hurt by the entrance of La Sexta, a new competitor for Audiovisual Sport, which is the main owner of TV rights in Spain. Right now TVG is only broadcasting the Copa del Rey games of Galician clubs and also Celta’s UEFA Cup matches.

Other rumours in Galicia say that Deportivo is negotiating with Sony for future sponsorship. This new deal would replace the current one with Fadesa. However, nobody inside the club has confirmed these negotiations. The current contract with Fadesa expires in 2008."
