LONDON, March 19 (Reuters) - Debt-laden Leeds United said on Friday the premier league club had been taken over by a consortium, Adulant Force Limited.

Earlier the Leeds United group said financial adminstrators had been appointed to two companies, but not the soccer club itself.

No financial details were available. The deal has been accepted by the group\'s creditors.

A group of Yorkshire businessmen have been negotiating to take over the northern England side, which is on the brink of being relegated from the premier league.

Financial administration is a form of creditor protection.

Leeds has built up debts of more than 80 million pounds ($146.5 million) and made a financial loss of almost 50 million pounds in the year to June 2003.

The problems date back to a player spending spree under former chairman Peter Ridsdale and ex-coach David O\'Leary, their confidence buoyed by performances that took Leeds to the Champions League semi-finals in 2001.

Forced to cut back on its wage bill, the club is facing relegation this season. It is bottom of the league with 22 points from 28 games.
