I feel I must share with you all my thanks to Shareholders United for
all the entertainment they have given us this past few months.

I\'m not going to return to their earlier successes, such as the
comically ignorant \"not for sale\" motto, their mighty pronouncements
about the unity of the manu fans and the idle boasts about blocking
glazer, the many protest marches (v newcastle + west brom), face-away-
from-the-pitch (v Chelsea) and stay away (westy brom again), all of
which had to be cancelled, or simply didnt happen, due to lack of
organisation and/or interest!!!

These were all fine and entertaining, as was the much trumpetted
disruption of the Cup Final (all I saw were large numbers of American
flags in the arsenal end, and all I heard on the subject was the
Bruce Springsteen-esque \"Sold to the USA\" song.) However, I come to
talk to you about the crowning glory of Shareholders United (AKA Not
For Sale)\'s campaign.

SU seemed to hold two trump cards. One was the fact that they
proclaimed to represent the \'true fans\', the season ticket holders,
and the other was that they swore they would never sell their shares
to Glazer, proclaiming that they owned nearly 10.7%. This would not
be enough to block the sale, but enough to cause much bother to
Glazer.

Personally, I believed early on that the mass protest mechanisms
planned by SU would fail, as I assume that manu attract a far higher
proportion of fans motivated by glory, self interest and money.
However, I believed that a motivated group like shareholders united
may have been able to make a difference, particularly considering the
statements they made.
We were told that they would withdraw all support from Manu, that
they would never, they could never, support a team under Glazer.
They\'ll go off and found their own club, we were told, they\'ll never
sell out.


Now, the facts from today, less than a month after the cup final.

Glazer owns 97.3% of manu shares. Therefore, at least, at least, 74%
of Shareholders United members sold their shares directly to Glazer,
literally sold out, opting for their 3 pounds per share.

Manu Announce Record Season Ticket Sales. Despite an average ticket
price increase (another thing SU swore they wouldnt accept) of 10%,
ManU have sold a record number of season tickets this year. Despite
their insistence that they would never renew their season tickets,
Manu reported that the number of season tickets NOT renewed this year
was \'in the tens\'. Less than a hundred \'real fans\'!!!

These final two blows display a level of ineptitude, greed and
bluster unexpected even to the cynical among us. Glazer has been
accused of many things, but one thing he will never stand accused of
is underestimating the fans lobby, for such a misjudgement may not be
possible. He must feel amazed that the sum total of the protests
amounted to close to zero, and surely he is now emboldened to proceed
with whatever reforms he wishes. Congratulations Shareholders United,
you have eased the entry of your nemesis, and ensured that he need
never fear, nor even acknowledge, your voice again!

ja samal ajal kui tõelised fännid boikoti märgiks rekordiliselt hooaja pileteid ostsid ja malcolm glazerile aktsiaid müüsid, tegid teised oma meeskonna. nagu afc wimbledon või midagi. aga nime valik ei õnnesutnud nii hästi ja uus lapsuke sai nime(värdja)ks fc united of manchester..

kogu see kemplemine ja suutmatus midagi TÕSISELT koos orgunnida ei tohiks ju eesti jalgpallihaigele eriti võõras olla, it\'s just the way it goes. Ja \'of\' liiteline klubinimi kõlab minu meelest väga mõnusalt retrolikuna, pealegi eesti keeles kõlaks see ju ikkagi Manchesteri United ( vrdl Karuküla Jaan vs Jaan Karukülast),
