Palju õnne K.Dyer

Glenn Roeder is banking on birthday boy Kieron Dyer to banish Newcastle United's Bolton blues when they go to Goodison Park to take on Everton tomorrow.

Dyer, who is 28 today, heads to Merseyside with three goals in his locker against Arsenal, Spurs and Bolton.

And he will not need reminding that probably the best of his 31 goals in a black-and-white shirt came in his first season with United, when he came off the bench and scored in a 2-0 victory at Everton.

Dyer said today: "I scored probably the best goal of my career at Everton, but any type of goal would do tomorrow."

Roeder has been rewarded for the sensible way he has handled Dyer after the former Ipswich midfielder struggled with his hamstring problems, and then suffered freak eye and leg injuries.

And as he held his familiar roll call before leaving for the second trip to the North West in five days, Roeder told me: "Kieron is 28 today, but the good news for our fans is that his best years are still in front of him.

"I have to say that we are all absolutely delighted with the fantastic way he is now playing for us, and that includes the rest of the players.

"He is full of confidence and he is happy around the place. The rest of the players have been quick to recognise the extra quality and running he has given us since he came back into the team.

"Even though it will be still three or four games before he is fully match fit, our analysis of every game shows that he is running more than anyone else on the field, no matter who we play."

Roeder substituted Dyer in a pre-planned ploy at the Reebok Stadium on Wednesday, but he will start tomorrow.

And so too will Scott Parker, even though the skipper is only one booking away from a one-match suspension.

If Roeder does not have enough problems with injuries, he must accept that because of the commitment his skipper gives, it is only a matter of time before that yellow card is flashed in his face.

However, there was some good news for Roeder with Nobby Solano training today to put himself in contention for a return to the side tomorrow after his groin injury.

Roeder says: "Nobby is 50-50 for tomorrow and the same applies to Shay Given.

"They are both trying so hard to get fit, as are the rest of the players , but once again we are facing a race against time.

"But if Nobby and Shay do not make it then I am sure they will both be out there against Manchester United at St James' on Monday night."

Damien Duff is unlikely to figure tomorrow after he suffered some tightness in his calf after pushing himself to get fit after his knee operation.

United start the second half of their Premiership season not having conceded a penalty, and hoping that they do not suffer from all the furore about whether Everton striker Andy Johnson dives or not.
