Chelsea\'s acting Chief Executive Paul Smith has admitted that the Stamford Bridge side could consider a move for United\'s Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The Dutch striker is currently in negotiations with United over a new contract amid speculation that Real Madrid are to attempt to lure Ruud to Spain in the summer.
Smith\'s comments will inflame rumours that United may part with arguably their most valuable asset.
\"If Van Nistelrooy was priced at £60m and we considered it a good investment, then we would probably pay,\" he said.
However, Smith added that a striker was not Chelsea\'s priority in the upcoming transfer window, as they currently have Adrian Mutu, Hernan Crespo, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Eidur Gudjohnsen.
It is also highly unlikely that United would sell their star striker to a rival Premiership club, especially since there is no financial pressure to sell and the player still has over two years remaining on his contract.
