He has played as a central defender earlier in his career and moved to right-back position where he is most efficient.

I'm not sure he can play at left-back position. Nobody has made such experiment before, you have the chance to be first. I'm very doubtful personally that 100% right-footed player is a good choice for that.

It´s not good for shooting and crossing on-the-run, but it´s quite good if you want the player to cut in and exchange ball with forwards in order to endanger opposition penalty area with quick cut-in actions.
It´s not rare that some managers exchange position to flankers during the game to create new game situation and catch opposition umprepared.
If flankers are versatile, they can produce 2 different type of performance depending which side they are playing.
Take Cristiano Ronaldo, it´s a top example of course. He is able to play both flanks but he is right footed of course.
In Inter Mourinho did the same with the young Santon. Moved him to left full back position when he is born as right one (in ´Allievi´ Inter young team was playing there) and he does exactly that: cuts in and try to create danger.
Maybe this year he will score a couple of goals having more experience.

Yep..good exammple is Lahm also...playing for Germany as a left back he keeps cutting in to the center and a
playing one-twos with somebody and in bayern he is on the right side and he is going always all the way on his side to make the cross.
